Conceptual Design Phase

This initial phase of design is exploratory where many ideas may circulate in meeting the needs and goals of a specific project. Often, there are several solutions and options that are considered which may satisfy the program.

SLC participation includes early cost estimates at an “Order of Magnitude” level to develop a better understanding of the intended design concepts’ financial impact. The exercises often include several options and alternatives to help determine the best path forward during this iterative process. Design schedules assist in maintaining milestones to keep projects on track.

Masterplanning

This phase develops a long-term overview for an entity’s future development and growth. During this stage, outlines for future building and capital investment projects are planned while consideration of resources and funding are determined.

SLC participation includes a high-level understanding of costs through cost modeling exercises and several comparative scenarios. Schedules at this early phase may help to understand timelines for resource availability and funding.
